McDonald's Szechuan sauce returns, thanks to 'Rick and Morty'

In Rick and Morty, one of the funniest cartoons on TV these days, we learn in Season 3 that the engine behind all of Rick's freaky space-time adventures is his search for a Szechuan dipping sauce that ran as a special Mulan promotion at McDonald's in the summer of 1998. The fast food giant will bring its Szechuan dipping sauce back to select locations this Saturday.

For one day only this Saturday, fans can head to four Chicago McDonald's locations to get a serving of the popular sauce.

It was first offered in 1998 as a tie-in with the Disney movie "Mulan".

That's how Rick and Morty Season 3 kicked off, in the most ridiculously wonderful way possible.

Now, other fans are getting the chance to taste the sauce, for one day only, on October 7 at 2 p.m.

Szechuan Sauce is a former Chicken McNuggets condiment.

The promotion is part of McDonald's launch of its new Buttermilk Crispy Tenders and Signature Sauce.

"A few lucky fans will also get to experience the glory, but the first bottle in this dimension is for you", the chef said, addressing Roiland.

Posters are available with the purchase of Buttermilk Crispy Tenders at participating McDonald's restaurants.

The savory and slightly sweet sauce, with hints of soy, ginger, garlic, and slight vinegar notes, will be available at the restaurant along with a chance to receive a limited-edition sauce poster.

Szechuan sauce will be available at McDonald's in limited quantities starting at 2 p.m., so once they're out, they're out. After hearing about the sauce's renewed popularity thanks to Adult Swim's Rick and Morty, McDonald's produced three more bottles of it that were randomly given away to a trio of fans via Twitter, much to the chagrin of everyone who didn't manage to snag one.
