Aston Martin Unveils New 2018 DB11 Volante

Made up of eight layers it takes just 14 seconds to lower and 16 to close and can be operated remotely from the key, or on the move at speeds of up to 31mph with a 31mph headwind.

Those who were expecting a glorious V12 soundtrack to go along with their soft-top escapades may be disappointed, though, as Aston Martin has chosen to launch the DB11 Volante with only the AMG-sourced V8 engine under the hood.

The DB11 Volante's convertible nature comes in the form of a tailored fabric roof that comes in either bordeaux red, black silver or grey silver.

Powered by a new 510PS, 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, the Aston Martin DB11 Volante is built around the new bonded aluminium structure - first seen in the DB11 Coupe - that makes it lighter and more rigid than its predecessor.

The latest vehicle to feature in a James Bond movie is the Aston Martin DB11, which was only a pre-production unit then, but now, graces our roads as one of the best looking cars in the world. There are three powertrain and chassis modes to switch between comfortable cruising and mountain road darting.

As a convertible, there's some creature comforts such as a heated steering wheel and rear-seat ISOFIX attachments points to encourage drop-top driving. Thanks to the aforementioned stack height, the DB11 Volante also has 20 percent more trunk room when compared to the DB9 Volante that it's replacing.

Based on the tests conducted by Aston Martin, the durability of the roof is rated up to 10 years of usage as they have used it in over 100,000 cycles in varying weather conditions.

Commenting on the launch, Aston Martin President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andy Palmer, said that for many of our customers, indeed many generations of Aston Martin customer, the Volante has always offered something very special.

One of the most striking (and polarizing) design features of the Aston Martin DB11 is its so-called floating roof - that odd C-pillar treatment that some love and some love to hate. The new hood has undergone extreme real world testing in locations ranging from Death Valley to the Arctic Circle.

2018 Aston Martin DB11 Volante. To protect the former, you need strength and rigidity, but to preserve the latter, you need to keep weight to a minimum. The result is a truly magnificent auto.
