Along with the Xbox One X and a slew of new Xbox One S bundles hitting retail very, very soon, Microsoft has confirmed that a curated list of original Xbox will be available to download and play in the near future.

Since these are original games and not remasters, Xbox Live services such as online multiplayer that were available on the original Xbox will not be available.


As far as multiplayer goes, games that support local or system link multiplayer will still have those features.

Like backwards compatible Xbox 360 games, one simply needs to insert an Xbox game disk into the Xbox One.

IGN had the chance to get their hands dirty with a few of these original titles on the Xbox One. Older games require more care and given the fact that the changes are substantial, combined with outdated licensing issues, it's understandable why it's taking them so long.
