Apple Pay arrives for Nordea's customers

Edenred and N26 support is said to be coming soon to Apple Pay in Finland, while early Swedish digital wallet adopters can look forward to Ticket Rikskuponger payments on the fly from eligible iPhones and Apple Watches in the near future. The new wireless service can be made use at any contactless payment terminal (wireless credit card readers for instance) in nearly all major retailers in the UAE.

In the United Arab Emirates, there are six banks for Apple Pay: Visa cards at Emirates Islamic, Emirates NBD, HSBC, mashreq, RAKBANK (Mastercard) and Standard Chartered Bank. Only 27% of eligible iPhone owners have ever used Apple Pay and only 8% use it every week, according to payment systems consultant First Annapolis.

Today Nordea brings Apple Pay to customers in Denmark, Finland and Sweden.

"As you know, moving towards cashless transactions is part of the UAE's government strategy, which has been supported by numerous leading banks in the market". The service was initially released in 2014. Over the last few years, Nordea has systematically built up its mobile payment services portfolio.

Bailey confirmed that Apple employees are testing Apple Pay Cash as well, but stopped short of confirming it would be released in iOS 11.1.

Apple Pay is a new feature at check stands in the company's Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Tom Thumb, Randalls and Carrs stores. That includes the hotly anticipated iPhone X, which arrives in stores next month with a hefty price-tag of $999.
