But despite Southgate naming a trio of uncapped players for England's global friendlies against Germany and Brazil later this month, Dunk and March failed to be among them.

The 20-year-old, who has scored five goals in 13 appearances at Swansea City this season, had been contemplating an offer to represent Nigeria who he is eligible to play for through his parents.

England manager Gareth Southgate has handed out senior global call-ups to Swansea striker Tammy Abraham, Crystal Palace midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.

Despite holding talks with officials representing the Super Eagles, Abraham has opted to pledge his global allegiance to England who has he played for at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-21 level.

All three have been called up to the first-team squad for the first time in their careers having impressed in the Premier League for the respective clubs.

Manchester United's Ashley Young, Danny Rose of Spurs and Leicester's Jamie Vardy have been recalled but there is no place for Liverpool pair Daniel Sturridge and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, United's Chris Smalling or Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

"If I'm asking club managers to be fearless and pick young players, I think I've got to do the same", England manager Gareth Southgate told journalists at a Wembley press conference.

Loftus-Cheek, 21, has played seven games for Palace, while 20-year-old Gomez has become Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's first-choice pick at right-back for Premier League games.

"For anybody who aspires to be involved at global level, it's about how they do at club level first", Hughton said. "It's not frustrating. We were not the only club that had an interest in him".
