Beyoncé confirmed to voice a main role in The Lion King remake

The animated Lion King was released in 1994 and is one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time with a lifetime global box office of $968.8M. Queen Bey will be joined by Donald Glover who is set to play Simba, while James Earl Jones will reprise his role as Mufasa. Following the casting announcement, though, we're on board the hype train.

Now, after a lot of speculation that she was going to make an appearance in the picture (or at least help produce the soundtrack), it was confirmed that Beyoncé was going to portray Nala.

Providing the comic relief are Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa, which is a hard meerkat and warthog duo to replace. JD McCrary will play the Young Simba and Shahadi Wright Joseph will play the Young Nala.

In addition to The Lion King, Disney still has live-action reboots of Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Dumbo, and Aladdin in the works.

"It is a director's dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life", Favreau in a statement. Jon Favreau, who directed the live-action remake of the The Jungle Book, is directing the film. So, umm, Disney, could you go ahead and release that Beyonce x Gambino collab for us already?
