Moon Kmart store among dozens company plans to close in early 2018

Sears Holdings Corp. on Thursday told employees at 18 Sears stores and 45 Kmart stores nationwide - including five stores in OH - that their stores will be closing after the holiday season, in late January 2018.

The corporation wouldn't comment about how many employees will be impacted by this decision.

"It's important to note that these stores will remain open to serve members during the holiday season", Sears said.

The company has announced closures of almost 300 Sears and Kmart stores this year as its financial struggles continue.

Liquidation sales will begin as early as November 9. Their parent company, Sears Holdings, hasn't turned a profit since 2010 and warned earlier this year there was "substantial doubt" that it will be able to stay in business.

In July, Sears Holding announced it was closing the final Kmart store in Toledo, located on Alexis Road, and also the Kmart store in Monroe, Mich.

Sears' financial position has gotten it in hot water with its vendors in the a year ago, many scaling back on their business with the retailer for fear of bad deals.

In the Baltimore area, Sears has closed stores at Columbia Town Center and Hunt Valley Town Center.

Sears CEO and primary shareholder Edward Lampert has publicly complained about vendors "trying to take advantage of negative rumors about Sears to make themselves a better deal".

Shares of Sears fell almost 4 percent, or 20 cents, to $5.23 in trading Friday.
