BlizzCon 2017 | New dungeoneering Hearthstone expansion Kobolds and Catacombs revealed

Players must defeat eight random bosses out of almost fifty possible encounters, while collecting loot along the way to reinforce their decks for the fight ahead.

The powerful cards in Dungeon Run does not mean that players should not have to look forward to the 135 new cards that will be added by Kobolds & Catacombs. You get permanent rewards, but each time you fail to beat an encounter, you have to start the dungeon from scratch and lose all the cards you gain during the dungeon. Blizzard describes it as a "Hearthstone Roguelike". Previously, only select classes could equip weapons, but there's now going to be at least one new weapon for each class in this expansion, each with a unique effect for that class.

Be careful though, because it seems losing a single battle will spell the end of the Dungeon Run. "You" start with a novice deck and fight tougher and tougher boss battles, looting new cards for your deck along the way.

The new cards for standard play in Hearthstone aren't messing around.

We haven't seen numerous new cards for Kobolds and Catacombs just yet, but we were introduced to a brand new mechanics: Recruit. Once players play all the Seal cards, they can summon Azari, the Devourer, a demon that destroys your opponent's deck.

Finally, we learned that the big "class card" addition this expansion will be class-specific weapons, even for classes that don't normally have weapons. Keep an eye on BlizzCon 2017 and popular Hearthstone streamers in the coming weeks, as we're likely to see more and more card reveals and get a better picture of the upcoming meta as it draws near.

Inspired by tabletop fantasy games about looting dungeons, Kobolds and Catacombs has cards all about the threats and treasures associated with being a fantasy adventurer, looting unexplored cave systems. They also showed off a legendary weapon called Dragon Soul, which summons a dragon after casting three spells in a tour.

Kobolds & Catacombs will add new cards and mechanics to Hearthstone, just all like other previous expansions to the digital card game.
