Buccaneers shut down QB Winston for 'couple weeks'

After several tough hits in the first half against the Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston left the game with a shoulder injury and did not return.

Koetter made the announcement after doctors examined the results of an MRI on Winston's right shoulder.

Winston did not play in the second half of the Bucaneers' 30-10 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday after landing on his right shoulder following a tackle. "They're [Bucs medical staff] recommending that we shut him down for at least two weeks".

Fitzpatrick will make his first start of the season against the team he started 27 games for from 2015-17.

Winston has passed for 1,920 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions on the season, which is his third in the league. He originally suffered the injury in a Week 6 loss to the Cardinals.

Before this week, Winston had only thrown one day a week because of the injury.

The Buccaneers will activate QB Ryan Griffin from injured reserve, and he'll back up Fitzpatrick until Winston is cleared for activity. That streak will end Sunday, when the Bucs (2-6) will try to end a five-game skid with Ryan Fitzpatrick replacing Winston against the New York Jets.
