Nicki Minaj's older brother Jelani Maraj has been convicted of predatory sexual assault of a child younger than 13 years old, it has been confirmed.

Washington D.C.: Rapper Nicki Minaj's older brother, Jelani Maraj was convicted, on Thursday, of repeatedly raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter in their Long Island home.

James R. Ray III, a civil attorney who briefly represented the mother, testified that he did demand $25'million from Jelani Maraj after he had already been arrested to settle a potential civil lawsuit, but he said the girl's mother was unaware of the demand. The guilty verdict carries with it a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Defence attorney David Schwartz said in his summation that a lawyer for the girl's mother contacted Maraj's lawyer saying, "if she was paid $25 million, these charges could just go away".

Maraj did not appear to react when the verdict was read in a Nassau County courtroom.

The prosecutor said DNA evidence recovered from the girl's pajama trousers was linked to Maraj.

Maraj was arrested December 1, 2015, on charges of predatory assault, second-degree course of sexual conduct and a misdemeanor charge of acting in a manner likely to injure a child. "The amount of evidence we have that wasn't allowed in this case is unbelievable".

Prosecutor Emma Slane told jurors the boy "unlocked a massive ugly secret" when he later revealed what he had seen to a child protection worker after his sister sparked an investigation while speaking to a school counselor in late November 2015.

But a prosecution witness testified that semen found on the accuser's pajama bottoms was a one-in-291 billion match with defendant Maraj. The victim, 14, and her brother, 10, both testified in court.

She said Maraj's wife told her: "It's gonna take lots of money to get out of this one".

After the jurors delivered the sentence, Maraj was taken back to jail as his $100,000 bail was revoked.
