Katy Perry, who was slated to sing at the show, won't be able to make it to Shanghai, either. Along with news that Harry Styles and Miguel will perform, it's been announced that 55 models will take the runway, which is the most the fashion show has ever seen. It showed Hadid squinting in a way that appeared to be a reference to a stereotype about Asian facial features.

Page Six has learned that the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show - which is due to be held in Shanghai in just two weeks and will feature models including Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Karlie Kloss, among others - is turning into an global media crisis.

Model Gigi Hadid took to Twitter on November 16, 2017, to announce that she wouldn't be able to make it to China this year. "Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!" In recent months, everyone from Devon Windsor to Karlie Kloss and Alanna Arrington have been snapping their very best hat selfies and sharing them on social media with double-tap worthy results.

It's unclear why Hadid is unable to make it, but if there's any indication, she may have been denied a Chinese visa like some of her fellow catwalkers. It triggered a controversy because the sunflower had been adopted the year before by anti-China protesters, as noted by Page Six.

The VS models aren't the only ones having difficulty with the Chinese government. "Maroon 5 was banned a few years ago because one band member wished the Dalai Lama happy birthday on Twitter".

This year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will air on CBS on November 28 at 10 pm ET/PT.

We're told that producers charged with coordinating the coverage for various outlets are "on the verge of nervous breakdowns".
