Florida State football coach Jimbo Fisher has resigned to take the head coaching job at Texas A&M, Florida State officials announced Friday.

Fisher's connection to Texas A&M comes in the form of Scott Woodward, who knows Fisher from their days at LSU. The Noles will win and move to 6-6, extending their bowl streak to 36 years in an otherwise bad season. Odell Haggins will act as interim head coach.

Fisher has accepted a position at Texas A&M University, according to ESPN.

One way or another, it seems someone is determined to leave Tallahassee for College Station, Texas. His $5.7 million salary is the sixth-highest among FBS coaches this season. He will replace Kevin Sumlin, who was sacked last weekend after going 51-26 in six seasons at Texas A&M.

He had been coaching the team for eight years with a 83-23 record.

Florida State University president John Thrasher told The Florida Channel that he is hoping to hear about a decision soon.

Fisher's silence has already had an impact on recruiting as three players who were verbal commitments have said they have chose to reopen their searches. They are 19-12 in their last 31 games, including 10-10 in the ACC.

Fisher previously spent time at Auburn (1993-1998) and LSU (2000-06) as an assistant coach, making this a return to the SEC.

"Evidently he feels like that's the right move for him and his family and the right time to do so", Swinney said at an ACC title game news conference. They'll hire a great coach.

Texas A&M has invested heavily in facilities the past five years, including a football operations center. I don't have any doubt about that. Taggart, who grew up in Bradenton, Florida, went 7-5 in his first season at Oregon.
