The Cavaliers are going to do everything it takes to make sure Isaiah Thomas is ready for his big debut.

Injured Cleveland Cavaliers guard Isaiah Thomas is getting closer to his return, with 5-on-5 practices and a likely G League stint in his immediate future.

Since acquiring the 28-year-old in a trade with the Boston Celtics that sent Kyrie Irving in the opposite direction, the Cavs have been taking a cautious approach with him in an effort to get him back to 100% for the crucial stages of the season. This report indicates that a late-December return is on the table, while Shams Charania of The Vertical reported on Sunday that Thomas would be back for the first week of the January.

Apparently, Thomas still hasn't practiced with the team in a full-court setting since they rarely hold practices.

However, with a Christmas Day showdown with the Golden State Warriors coming up, McMenamin reports that the Cavaliers have a session scheduled for Christmas Eve that IT is expected to take part in.

The Cavs are hoping to find a way for Thomas to scrimmage with their G-League affiliate, the Canton Charge, multiple team sources told ESPN.

Thomas' return is projected to be sometime within the next three weeks, with the January 3 return to the Garden circled. McMenamin noted that a source said that Thomas won't play at all in any games before Christmas. The two-time All-Star would love to suit up against his former team. "I hope it's accurate". They've won 18 of their last 19 games, and LeBron James is debatably having the best season of his entire historic career.
