2017's last trading day ends with big gains

The Nifty too rallied 2,344.90 points, or 28.65%, in 2017.

The Sensex and the Nifty ended higher on Friday, posting their biggest yearly gain in three, as strong foreign fund inflows, hopes of an improving economy and higher corporate earnings boosted investor confidence.

The index started the day at 33, 889.39 points and reached highest-ever 34,086.05 before closing at 34,056.83- this was an increase of 208.80 points, or 0.62 per cent in toto.

The calendar year 2017 has been a historical one for our markets as the Nifty index has registered gains of about 28% and touched the magical mark of 10,500, while the BSE Sensex has surged about 27% and touched the landmark of 34,000.

The NSE Nifty slid 40.75 points, or 0.39 percent, to 10,490.75 after scaling a new peak of 10,552.40.

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex opened higher on Friday against the previous session's closing.

Reliance Communications (RCom) today rose as much as 23%, after Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio announced yesterday that it will acquire RCom's wireless infrastructure assets, including towers and spectrum, at an estimated price of Rs 20,000-24,000 crore.The stock, however, 17.48% up on the NSE.

In the Sensex kitty, Tata Motors saw the maximum gain of 3.06 percent, followed by Axis Bank (2.74 percent), TCS (2.72 percent), Hero MotoCorp (2.38 percent), Adani Ports (1.94 percent), Wipro (1.90 percent), Asian Paints (1.16 percent), Maruti Suzuki (1.05 percent), HDFC Ltd (0.94 percent), ONGC (0.85 percent), NTPC (0.83 percent) and Hindustan Unilever (0.79 percent).

Nifty IT and Nifty Auto indices climbed 1.47 and 1.28 per cent, respectively.

Today is the last session of December expiry in the derivatives segment. Japan's Nikkei shed 0.08%.
