Instagram to show "Recommended Posts" on your home feed

Instagram will show three to five suggested posts in the new section.

The "Recommended for You" option lets the users see recommendations on the basis of the posts liked by the accounts they follow. Another highlight of the post is that if you don't like this new feature, you can always choose to hide it.

While you probably have your favorite accounts to follow on Instagram, every once in a while you'd still want to discover some new people or brands to follow. However, things have changed and Instagram users will now be viewing the content directly on their homepages.

I don't even see 75% of the people I'm following posts but now @Instagram is sticking "recommended posts" in my feed.

Instagram has also added a new section to its Help site explaining how the company determines posts that appear in "Recommended for You".

It seems pretty similar to both the "Following" section, which shows what posts your friends are liking, and the "Search and Explore" section, where you can find photos and videos that you might like from accounts you don't yet follow.

This is a big change for Instagram, probably the biggest since the platform introduced its algorithm-based feed ranking instead of a chronological order. The company hopes the tweak will help to drive engagement with the Instagram app, which of course would then allow it to charge top dollar to advertisers aiming to sell their products to as many users as possible. However, according to a report by TechCrunch, users will see these recommended posts while browsing through their news feed rather than seeing just the posts from the users they follow. Users need not get it confused with their own home feed.

The "Recommended for You" feature is now rolling out to all iOS and Android Instagram users. For the hashtags, you can easily opt in and out voluntarily.
