Mariah Carey deserves a second chance, 'New Year's Rockin' Eve' hosts say

In the spirit of the new year - and staying on theme for the telecast, New Year's Rockin' Eve hosts Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy told Variety that they were happy Mariah Carey was invited back to perform at ABC's Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest, despite last year's disappointment.

As the Waterford ball drops in Times Square, millions of people welcome the new beginnings with a celebratory kiss and a wish for an optimistic year to come.

The "All I Want For Christmas Is You" hitmaker has vowed to keep her festive decorations up until the middle of 2018.

Jenny McCarthy adds to Variety that the theme of "Unity", doesn't just apply to Carey, but for a whole nation that she said has been riddled with lots of negativity through the past year. As 2017 comes to a close, BWW brings you a guide to New Year's Eve (and Day) television coverage.

She said: "I didn't obsess over the New Year's Eve thing". Mariah Carey will surely give a standout performance that'll make any naysayers forget about last year's bad luck, and remember the talented, iconic singer she is. I mean, I was upset about the fact that people didn't understand, but it's like, I can only explain it like this to you. The special will air from all over the country, but with a home base of Times Square in New York City. I don't know why it's not OK that I was just vilified by the situation. "I would love to do that sometime". It's not like. 'Oh, here's a way to get famous.' It wasn't any of those things. "I'm going on the same stage at the exact same moment before the ball drops in front of tens of millions of people.'" Billboard reports that a year ago, Carey blamed Dick Clark Productions for technical glitches, while Dick Clark Productions denied any wrong-doing on their end. Either way, clearly both the Carey camp and Dick Clark Productions realized that it's mutually beneficial for her to return.
