Small Fire Breaks Out at Trump Tower in NYC

A blaze broke out in the ventilation system of Trump Tower in NY on Monday, seriously injuring one person, the fire department said.

The blaze reportedly broke out at around 6.58am on Monday, NBC4 NY reported, and appears to have affacted the top of the building, which would put the blaze close to Trump's own penthouse residence and several floors about the headquarters of The Trump Organization.

The reason behind fire has not been ascertained yet.

Trump was in Washington on Monday morning, according to his public White House schedule.

'The men and women of the #FDNY are true heros and deserve our most honest thanks and praise!'

Fire officials say a civilian was treated for serious injuries and a firefighter was treated for minor injuries.

"We made several announcements to all the tenants in the building to remain in place", said New York Fire Chief Roger Sakowich. Flames coming from the vents.

The fire department is on the scene, the police spokesman said. That call was made at approximately 7 AM.

About 84 firefighters attended the scene initially.

A fire department spokesperson described the matter as "quick, easy and routine". The president was not at the tower when the fire started and he has not issued a statement on the fire as of 8:55 a.m. The building was famously used as the setting for the reality TV program "The Apprentice".
