Netanyahu set to lead trade task force to India

Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu will begin a six-day visit to India on Sunday and the event, announced by the Israeli embassy here on Friday, will be closely watched by Pakistan in the neighbourhood and by Iran and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East where India has gained in profile in recent months. He mentioned Israel's support to the Indian candidate for the International Court of Justice, Judge Dalveer Bhandari, past year as an example of Israel's support for India at an important multilateral forum. More significantly, earlier this month India voted for the United Nations resolution that criticised U.S. president Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. It [the issue of India's negative vote at the UN General Assembly] is being talked about through diplomatic channels between our countries. "We want to take it to a higher level", Bhaskar had said. On Wednesday, PM Netanyahu had said while addressing the Government Press Office's annual end-of-year reception for foreign press corps in Israel: "Well, I would have preferred a different vote to be frank, but I don't think it materially changes the tremendous flowering of relations between India and Israel".

One of Mr Netanyahu's stops on the trip, the first by an Israeli premier since Ariel Sharon in 2003, will be in Mumbai where he will meet on January 18 with stars and executives of India's mammoth film industry.

"On January 1, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wished a Happy New Year to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian people", the source noted. He hinted that New Delhi was reconsidering buying the missiles through government to government route.

But at the same time, Rafael said India had cancelled a separate $500-million deal to purchase Spike anti-tank guided missiles. Reciprocating gesture, Modi is hosting Netanyahu in his home state Gujarat. "I am deeply honoured to stand here today to salute the valiant soldiers, who laid down their lives for the liberation of Haifa during the first World War", Modi had written in the visitors' book. Both PMs are expected to lead a road show as well in Ahmadabad. "If there is a problem, it can be solved", the Israeli envoy said.

On Thursday, Netanyahu will have a power Breakfast with Indian CEOs and attend a business seminar.

Israeli PM will reach out to Bollywood in an exclusive "Shalom Bollywood" event. The government is pulling strings to ensure presence of top producers and directors of Bollywood. Last year, Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd won almost $2 billion in contracts from India.
