India vs South Africa 2018: Dinesh Karthik to replace injured

India on Tuesday called up Dinesh Karthik to fly to South Africa to replace injured wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha for the third and final Test against the Proteas. In the first and second Test, they went without their vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and instead picked Rohit Sharma in the playing XI on the basis of his current form. The two teams will play the third and final Test in Johannesburg from January 24.

With Saha having been diagnosed with an upper left hamstring tendon injury, he will play no further part in the three-Test series.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Dinesh Karthik as the replacement for Wriddhiman Saha for the third and final Test against South Africa". He has 51 catches and five stumpings.

Veteran stumper Parthiv Patel is now donning the big gloves in the second Test. India now trails the Proteas 0-1 in the three-match rubber, having lost the opener in Cape Town.

Karthik is making a comeback into the Test side after a gap of 8 years.

Saha created history in the first Test match by becoming the first Indian cricket team wicketkeeper to take ten dismissals in a match.

Karthik has also been included in India's squad for the six-match ODI series, which begins on February 1 in Durban.

Meanwhile, Twitterati has made fun of Dinesh Karthik who is going to join Murali Karthik on the field soon.

Saha, a gutsy batsman and an extremely competent wicketkeeper, had to wait for years to earn his place in the Test team.

Dinesh Karthik and Murali Vijay were both great friends as they played together for the Ranji team of Tamil Nadu.
