One deputy was killed and three other law enforcement officers and a civilian were shot during an incident in Colorado Springs on Monday afternoon, law enforcement said.

Monday was the deputy's 11-year anniversary of a member of the sheriff's office.

He is survived by his wife and seven-year-old twins.

Two other deputies shot in the incident were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, the Denver Post reported. As a result, a civilian was injured by gunfire and transported to Memorial Hospital.

This happened around 4 p.m. and is still an ongoing situation, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

The sole suspect, police said, was also killed.

In addition to the slain deputy, the same sources tell 11 News at least two other officers were shot and injured and the suspects are likely down.

"Enough", tweeted Douglas County sheriff's Deputy Jeff Pelle, who was seriously wounded in the December 31 shooting that killed his colleague, Deputy Zackari Parrish.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said the deadly violence against officers is having a grave impact on the state.

Smith, who just finished a one-year term as president of the County Sheriffs of Colorado, said in 31 years in law enforcement he has never attended so many officer funerals so close together.

For the third time in a little more than a month, Colorado is mourning the shooting death of a law enforcement officer.

Television footage showed dozens of police vehicles at the scene Monday in a neighborhood of single-family homes, apartment buildings and retail stores. Although their conditions are unknown tonight, what we do know is that the community is already coming together.

Hickenlooper ordered flags flown at half-staff in Flick's honor.

On Dec. 31, Douglas County Deputy Zachary Parrish was shot and killed during an ambush at a Highlands Ranch apartment complex.

Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado also offered his condolences and offered support for those "who put their lives on the line to protect our communities".
