Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday attended the joint funeral prayer of 11 soldiers who lost their lives in Swat attack on Saturday. The suicide bomber reportedly blew himself up in a ground where the security personnel were playing volleyball. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack in an email sent to journalists, warning that the group would carry out more such attacks.

The powerful explosion, which rocked the surrounding area, occurred in the Kabal region of Swat, a picturesque valley in the northern part of the country.

Security forces cordoned off the area and were searching for possible accomplices of the bomber, the military statement said.

The operation was conducted after intelligence agencies received accurate information regarding movement of terrorists, who were crossing over from Afghanistan and entering Swat valley.

Swat, a tourist spot located in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is also known as the "Switzerland of Pakistan". The valley was briefly controlled by the Taliban between 2007 and 2009.
