Unlike Android, iOS always had a different release strategy. "His team will have more time to work on new features and focus on under-the-hood refinements without being tied to a list of new features annually simply so the company can tout a massive year-over-year leap, people familiar with the situation say". But there's a good reason for this change, which was reported by Bloomberg.

Early reports of Apple's more conservative approach to furnishing the iOS 12 software update are now being fleshed out.

According to Bloomberg, however, this is more than just a periodic pause for Apple to catch its metaphorical breath. In addition to prioritizing quality over quantity, so insiders say, the engineers will also have greater flexibility to push back the release of features that still need time to flawless.

Long held up as an example of a technology company that put a premium on device and software quality, Apple has been criticized recently for various missteps and problems.

One source close to the situation told Bloomberg, "This change is Apple beginning to realize that schedules are not being hit [and] stuff is being released with bugs". Their more agile model enables features to be cut from release as and when required, before being reintroduced at a later date. This feature appears likely to appear in iOS 12. Soon iOS 11.3 will be released which will undo the throttling of the performance on older devices.

Apple (aapl) is making a big change to the way it updates its software for iOS devices such as iPhones and iPads, by relaxing its development schedule.

Even the new iPhone X has been affected, with some users complaining about app crashes and incoming calls not being noted in time. The iPhone X launch, while financially successful for the company, has still gathered its share of software complaints. Users will be able to automatically reject phone calls and silence notifications that they would rather not receive while the mode is activated.

Further reports from Bloomberg suggests that the new features are being made as a part of the software release which is now codenamed as "Peace".

In a world of intense competition, rolling out update after update only to see issues continue to arise has forced Apple back into the drawing room.

Back to building quality Major iOS releases are highly predictable, arriving each September with a slew of new features in tow.
