Japan: American tourist arrested after female body parts found across Osaka

The torso was found on the ground and the arms covered with soil at the same location in Shimamoto. Police have reportedly described the body parts as having no apparent injuries apart from where they were severed.

Bayraktar is now being held on suspicion of murdering the 27-year-old woman, who has not been identified, but has not yet been charged with a crime.

After that point, the man is seen leaving the building on his own on several occasions and, at times, he was seen carrying a large bag, the site reported.

The U.S. national, who entered Japan in late January, was the last person seen with the 27-year-old woman from Sanda, Hyogo Prefecture.

The BBC reports that no other human remains have been found.

Police say that the man, named by local media as Yevgeniy Vasilievich Bayraktar, 26, from NY, confessed to abandoning the woman's body and disposing of her remains in several locations in central Japan.

Bayraktar is believed to have stayed in a number of flats rented to tourists since arriving in Japan.

The woman's head was found Saturday in a suitcase at a short-term lodging facility, or minpaku, in the Nishinari ward of the city of Osaka, investigators told the local news media.

Police searching for the woman found what they believe to be her head in a suitcase in the apartment.

Investigative sources say that on February 16th, the suspect and the woman were seen entering a building together in Higashinari Ward, Osaka, where he was staying.

The man was arrested for allegedly "confining" the woman in an apartment in Osaka, the Japan Times reported.

She was reported missing on February 17, two days after friends last heard from her.

The footage does not show the woman leaving the apartment.

Nippon TV reported that the man's parents denied allegations, and said Bayraktar had always dreamed about marrying a Japanese woman.

A local police spokesman declined to confirm details.
