UFC 222 - Cyborg vs. Kunitskaya: Main Card Staff Picks

Cyborg once again goes in as a heavy favourite (-1650) but she is not taking this fight lightly as Kunitskaya trains at the famed Jackson-Wink academy.

Cris Cyborg is only a day away from defending her UFC women's featherweight title against former Invicta FC bantamweight champion Yana Kunitskaya.

But, Cris says she's got a plan to get Ronda's attention - and it involves a STEEL CHAIR.

"I think [Cyborg] is [the best ever] personally", Smith told MMAWeekly ahead of UFC 222.

The co-headliner is a title-eliminator at 145 pounds between the former lightweight king and longtime fan favorite, Frankie Edgar and risky up-and-comer, Brian Ortega.

Thus, it comes as no surprise, that UFC 222 oddsmakers have Kunitskaya listed as a huge +900 (betting) underdog. I think she was able to prove she can go 25 hard minutes. "We're not used to seeing somebody this good at this high of a level who just destroys the competition every, single time she fights". Also featured on the card is 135-pound prospect Sean O'Malley.

Cyborg has also attempted to venture into the sport of professional boxing, as she has been granted a boxing license in the state of California.

"I know, but I'd need to slip my head a lot and have to be fast before I can catch him". The only thing that will beat Cyborg is time, and that time has not yet come. On the ground, Kunitskaya is not a poor offensive grappler, but even though we do not see it that often, Justino has massively improved her technical grappling over the years - a far cry from when she once momentarily pulled Gina Carano into full mount on top of her. Perhaps if this was the "Cyborg" of years past, darting into the pocket with wild, hooking combos and haphazardly lunging at her foes on the floor, the "Foxy" Russian would have a better chance to make history.

It's the savvy veteran skills of the legendary Edgar against the raw, exciting talent of the unbeaten Ortega and while the night's top-billed fight is for the women's featherweight title, make no mistake, this is the matchup that the fans are most eager to see underway. "I knew it was going to be a decision fight because I know she can take a punch and I'm really happy because it was a big challenge for me and a big victory after five rounds".
