Shaquem Griffin improved his chances of a lucrative NFL contract when he wowed scouts at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

But no matter - the fast first time (regarded as his official time), paired with his electrifying 20 bench press reps of 225 pounds on Saturday - pretty much made Griffin the star of the weekend.

Griffin's left arm was fitted with a special prosthesis to allow him to grip the barbell, and after he put it on and had it attached to the weight, he began lifting.

Evidently, one National Football League general manager didn't get the memo. The prospect obviously smashed those expectations, and left everyone in awe. "I think I beat that by a lot", Griffin told reporters at the combine.

Griffin told reporters, "It was fantastic, hearing the crowd and having the juices flowing, I mean I felt it".

Following up his impressive bench press showing, Griffin gave an encore during his 40-yard dash.

But just one shocking result wasn't enough for the 22-year-old phenom from the University of Central Florida. The NFL eventually came to its senses, and extended an invite. It wasn't a yes.

"I want them to know that I don't have to be the guy who just rushes the quarterback", Griffin said.

Griffin, who played D-line, linebacker and safety at the Senior Bowl, said he's going to try to join the defensive back drills Sunday after doing his work with the linebackers. His superior play at the collegiate level suggests he has an excellent chance to reach this goal. A two-time first-team all-conference player, Griffin was named the American Conference's Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. He's undersized as a linebacker at 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds, which could hurt his draft value.

It has never stopped him and it does not appear to be limiting him as he undergoes the audition process with National Football League teams at the Senior Bowl and this week's Scouting Combine. Shaquil was taken in the third round last season by the Seattle Seahawks.
