WEST HAM tensions boiled over during their home hammering by Burnley when one of the pitch invaders was punched by his own fans.

A West Ham statement said: "We have immediately launched a full and thorough investigation into the incidents which marred the second half of today's match and are committed to taking decisive and appropriate action".

Chris Wood is making up for lost time in the English Premier League, playing a starring role in a tension-filled 3-0 win over West Ham in London.

Moyes spoke about the moment Mark Noble clashed with a pitch invader and admitted that he thought the Hammers skipper might have been sent-off for his actions: "A little bit (though he might be sent-off)".

Hundreds of fans congregated beneath the directors' box to chant "Sack the board", which includes co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.

West Ham fans invaded the pitch at London Stadium after three second-half Burnley goals condemned the hosts to a third consecutive defeat.

Another supporter picked up a corner flag, ran to the centre circle and planted it in the ground. "A lot of fans got on the pitch", he said.

Afterwards West Ham manager David Moyes called for the fans to get behind the team. "There will be no further comment at this time".

"We had played well enough to be in front but the first goal quickly altered things".

Burnley displayed a ruthless streak as the situation deteriorated around them and Dyche was impressed by his team's composure in utterly surreal circumstances.

"I'm more interested in the points we get rather than what Burnley have got".

"You don't want that to happen on the pitch, it creates problems and safety issues". Having tried to play a 3-4-3 formation in recent games, Moyes is expected to stick with this tactic but should see Antonio return to the side and may prefer to play Marko Arnautović at the tip of attack to provide more presence than Javier Hernández who finds himself too isolated in this formation. The players know we did well today for long periods. They have ways of venting that [frustration]. "It does make the atmosphere really tough to play in".
