Florida club shut down after woman rides horse on dance floor

The club will face a criminal animal cruelty investigation, Miami Beach Police Chief Daniel Oates told reporters.

This story originally appeared on CBS Miami's website.

Video of a panicked horse inside a packed Florida nightclub has created an internet storm that resulted in the venue being stripped of its business license.

The city manager, Jimmy Morales, who issued the order revoking the nightclub's business licence, added, "I was disgusted and offended that any legitimate businessperson would think this was an appropriate action to take".

The moments before the woman fell off the horse. In the video, the horse is visible scared and falls to the floor at one point.

Back in Studio 54's heyday, Bianca Jagger rode a similar looking horse inside the wild NYC club in May 1977 for her birthday celebration.

"The city was made aware of an incident involving possible animal cruelty and a hazard to public safety", noted a statement from the City of Miami Beach.

As Mokai's shutdown was announced, Mayor Dan Gelber supported Morales' decision. Almost 3,000 people signed a petition for police to take action against the club.

But a social media posting of a scantily clad woman riding a horse in a crowded Miami Beach nightclub has caught the attention of police.

How Mokai described what went down last Wednesday on Twitter did not include any images of the horse drama.

This is not the first time the club has featured live animals as promotional props. "Idiots!" a user named Melanie A. posted.
