Sean Smith will be released by Oakland Raiders

As part of Smith's plea agreement, he will be sentenced to one year in prison and three years of probation. Last Monday, the Raiders released Smith from his contract. Smith was charged with felony assault last August after allegedly attacking his sister's boyfriend. He's due back in court on April 5. He signed a four-year, $38 million deal with the Raiders before the 2016 season. Smith was benched early in his Raiders career and failed to lock down a cornerback position that has since been given to last year's first round rookie, Gareon Conley. While teams likely would have been interested in bringing him in to see what was left in the tank at the age of 31, instead he will be out of the league entirely. With AP Photos. The Oakland Raiders released cornerback Sean Smith and right tackle Marshall Newhouse to create more salary cap room heading into free agency.

The Raiders now have moved on from Smith and David Amerson this offseason. His 32 tackles past year matched the fewest since his 2009 rookie season with Miami. Starting cornerback TJ Carrie and safety Reggie Nelson are both scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on Wednesday. He was released by the Raiders last week.

The Raiders have released Sean Smith from a four-year contract, a source said Monday morning.
