According to Schefter, Minnesota remains the top potential destination for Cousins.

The 30-year-old Keenum has had stints with the Texans, Rams and Vikings, who reached the NFC Championship Game last season. Neither, too, can Keenum's connection to Gary Kubiak, an advisor for the Broncos. It's believed the Broncos didn't like fully guaranteeing the third year, or that they wouldn't have Cousins under their control for more than three years.

Keenum is a nice consolation prize for Denver, though.

There was a possibility that Keenum could have returned to the Vikings in 2018, but the team did not want to give him the kind of money (more than $20 million per year) that some had been estimating he could get in the open market. The two-year deal doesn't mortgage the team's future if things don't work out and at $36MM, Keenum's price tag is still much cheaper than what Denver would have had to commit for Kirk Cousins. Denver also has the No. 5 overall pick in this year's NFL Draft but should be off the board for taking an early QB.

Despite those questions, quarterbacks are always a hot commodity, and Keenum is coming off an excellent season. Sure, you could say that the fact the Broncos took Keenum as the first QB move in free agency could or does mean that he's clearly highly coveted, but that's something that ignores the reality surrounding how he ended up there. That would leave the Vikings, Jets and Cardinals in the running to land Kirk Cousins. That's what made this off-season situation so awesome, as the Vikings basically had their pick of what appeared to be three different franchise quality quarterbacks.

Siemian again handily beat out Lynch last summer, but the Broncos would cycle through their trio of homegrown QBs during a 5-11 season that almost cost rookie head coach Vance Joseph his job.

For Keenum, he will now face a pile of expectations in a quarterback-crazed region that saw its team win a Super Bowl just two seasons ago.
