Bollywood star out on bond while appealing poaching conviction

Mumbai (Maharashtra), Apr 07 (ANI): After spending two days in jail, Bollywood actor Salman Khan returned to his residence in Mumbai.

Salman's close buddies Mika Singh, Rohit Roy and Sonu Sood, filmmaker Subhash Ghai, actors Neil Nitin Mukesh, Rahul Dev and Aftab Shivdasani and playback singer Adnan Sami expressed happiness on Salman being granted bail by the Jodhpur sessions court in the case on Saturday afternoon.

A court on Saturday granted bail to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, who will be allowed to remain free while he appeals his conviction on charges of poaching rare deer in a wildlife preserve two decades ago. He was sentenced to five years in jail for killing two blackbucks and has spent two nights in the Jodhpur Central Jail.

The court found him guilty while acquitting four other actors. "This has nothing to do with Khan's personality as an actor", he said.

Animal rights group PETA said it was disappointed with Khan's bail.

"While Salman Khan gets to go back home to his movie star life for now, blackbucks were made to pay the highest price, with their lives", PETA India CEO Manilal Valliyate said in a statement. His lawyers claim the black bucks died of natural causes such as overeating, insisting there was no evidence they were shot.

Khan has almost $90 million riding on his projects in coming months with at least three films in the pipeline, analysts say.

The four other co-accused - actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam - have been acquitted.

The 52-year-old Khan has starred in more than 90 Hindi-language films.

Some actors came out in Khan's support.

His next film, "Race 3", is an action thriller scheduled for release later in the year.
