Gandhi said. "Because there are two basic things: once the Opposition unity goes above a certain level, it becomes impossible to win elections". That's fine, that is the way they look at the world.

"Rahul baba is asking us what has the Modi government done in four years, but the people of the country are seeking a report of development from four generations of his family", he said.

On Saturday, Gandhi attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for insulting Dalits, tribals and Opposition leaders. "It is a disrespectful statement", Rahul told reporters during the fifth round of his visit to poll-bound Karnataka.

"A united opposition will ensure the defeat of the BJP and prevent Modi from winning again from the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in the 2019 parliamentary elections", he said at a media interaction here.

"Instead of creating two crore jobs for the youth of the country, Modi snatched away thousands of jobs by signing a deal with a French company (Dassault Aviation) to buy Rafale fighters for the IAF and denied HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd) making them in India", reiterated Gandhi.

"For the first time, I saw a leader distributing candies for his own party's defeat as its candidates lost their deposits in the Uttar Pradesh bypolls", he said, addressing a rally to mark the BJP's 38th Foundation Day". It doesn't stop there. The BJP would never allow reservations to be removed, he said, adding, "We will not allow you to do it either". "We in Congress know how to carry people, we are not egotistical people, we don't crush people and we don't destroy people's lives, so we will manage it", he said. There is Mr Narendra Modi and there is Mr Amit Shah... "That's all, that's the reality".

At the rally, Shah had said, "The countdown for 2019 (polls) has begun". What has happened in India now is that the Opposition's unity is very strong.

For the second successive day, Gandhi kept the focus on Shah's remark that when huge floods occur, only a banyan tree survives and snakes, mongooses, dogs, cats and other animals climb to save themselves from the rising waters.

Mr Gandhi claimed that he understands UP politics, saying that when the three parties (SP, BSP and Congress) come together, "BJP will win only two seats, that too with luck".
