That's why a number of local agencies become increasingly vocal in April for National Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Month.

For the past several years, Mayor Harold Miller proclaimed that April would be Child Abuse Prevention month and Monday night, he presented the proclamation to the executive director of Child's Place CASA, Rhonda Stubbs.

Detective Constable Steve Smith, from GMP's Public Protection Division, said: "This woman suffered relentless abuse at the hands of King who was a child himself when these offences first began". Since 42 is the average age at which victims reveal having been abused, justice is denied to most adult survivors of child sexual abuse.

Specially trained people at the center do forensic interviews with a child of abuse.

Ellen O'Neill-Stephens, founder of the Seattle-based Courthouse Dogs Foundation, will tell the conference how trained court dogs can help particularly vulnerable victims, such as child sex abuse victims, to testify in court.

The Ministry of Health will also establish special centers for the abused children, the draft law added.

"Its hard to care for children all day long, day after day", said Logan.

"These are our kids, this is our community, this is our city, as a community as a city we need to support our kids we need to be there for our kids", says Durrall.

If you see something that's not right, she said to call Children Services at 440-350-4000.

Children's Home and Aid will also be hosting a Family Fun Night on April 17 and 5k Run on April 21 to continue their celebration for Child Abuse Prevention Month.

If all those statistics seem depressing and overwhelming, take heart, said Laura McDaniels, child advocate for the Mountain CAP Child Advocacy Center in Buckhannon.

Strong communities help strengthen families, Floyd said. In addition, McDaniels provides shorter informational sessions, discussions and trainings for a variety of sectors of the population, including community organizations, educators, church groups, child development personnel and more.
