More than 30 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire since the start of "Flag Friday" demonstrations two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army said it troops responded with riot dispersal means in dealing with protestors in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week visited Sderot, an Israeli community near Gaza, and said Israel's top priority is its security.

It added that Palestinians took part in violent protests, with demonstrators throwing an explosive device and firebombs at Israeli troops. "We have no knowledge of any Israeli strike in the area", he said.

Four Palestinian militants from Islamic Jihad were killed in an apparent accidental explosion near the Gaza-Israel border today, the group said.

At least two Palestinian journalists were injured while covering mass protests on the Gaza border on April 13, 2018, according to the Palestinian Journalist Syndicate (PJS), the journalists' employers, and news reports.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh this week renewed a pledge that the marches would pave the way for a return of Palestinian refugees and their descendants to what is now Israel.

The Israeli army said some demonstrators on Friday repeatedly attempted to destroy obstacles that the army had erected. Some have said they intend to use mirrors and lasers to distract Israeli snipers, according to The Jerusalem Post. "An order to open live fire at unarmed protesters is manifestly unlawful", it said.

Medics at the scene in the Rafah area said four Palestinians were killed by an Israeli tank shell but an Israeli military spokesman said the army was not involved. He said it wasn't a "price tag" on casualties.

But Palestinians say protesters are being shot while posing no threat to soldiers, and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the European Union have called for an independent investigation.

Israel claimed he was a paid member of Hamas, but produced no evidence.

At least five Palestinian have been killed after Israel's occupational forces resorted to live fire on peaceful protesters in southern Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Health Ministry said on Saturday.
