Body of Child Found Near NoCal River Where Valencia Family Vanished

Officials in Mendocino County said the body was found about 10:45 a.m.in the Eel River north of Leggett, about seven miles from the spot where the Thottapilly family's maroon Honda Pilot was reported to have fallen into the river on April 6.

Sheriff Tom Allman said in a television interview earlier this month that Jennifer Hart "is the woman that we believe was driving the vehicle when it crashed". Mendocino County Search and Rescue divers are preparing to be deployed to the area of the crash site once ocean conditions improve.

Ukiah CHP Area Commander Bruce Carpenter also said that Sarah Hart's remains tested positive for "a significant amount" of diphenhydramine, an active ingredient found in the allergy medication Benadryl.

The driver was pulling into a pullout during heavy rains when the SUV went over the edge, according to Sheriff's officials.

One of the two still missing was 15-year-old Devonte Hart, an African-American youth who gained attention in 2014 after being photographed embracing a white police officer during a protest following the fatal police shooting of a young black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri.

In California, a person is legally drunk if they have a BAC of.08 or higher.

The results of a toxicology text performed on a third juvenile victim is still pending.

The bodies of Jennifer and Sarah Hart were found March 26 inside the family's SUV, which had crashed at the rocky shoreline below a cliff in Mendocino County.

Carpenter said the family stopped in the small town of Naselle, Washington, near their Woodland, Washington, home, during their drive to the California cliff but that investigators are still trying to determine why they stopped there and whether they contacted anyone. Three other children, Hannah, 16, Devonte, 15, and Sierra, also 15, are missing.

The items had turned up over the course of searches of the South Fork of the Eel River over the past two days, the statement said.

Jennifer, her wife Sarah and three of their children were found dead after their vehicle plunged into the Pacific Ocean March 26.

Efforts to find the three missing Hart children are continuing.

And authorities have said social services officials in OR contacted the West Linn Police Department about the family in 2013 while they were living in the area.
