IMD forecasts thunderstorm, squall in north India on Tuesday

The thunderstorm will be accompanied with gusty winds and moderate squall having a speed between 50 to 70 kmph.

The Meteorological Department has issued dust storm warning with light rains in Alwar, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Dausa, Dholpur and Jaipur.

The Ministry has said that in some places of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, there may be rains with thunderstorms and hailstorms on Monday. If wind speed is more than 90kmph, then trains will be put oh hold at platforms... no train will enter the platform with a speed of more than 15kmph.

Dust storm, with a wind speed of 70 kilometres per hour, had hit the national capital and neighbouring Gurgaon just before midnight on Monday. Schools will also be closed in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The traffic police has asked also commuters to check weather conditions before travelling while the Delhi Metro too has made a decision to exercise extreme caution in running of trains.

The Delhi government and Delhi traffic police have also issued directives following the alert. In Rajasthan, a dust storm hit places in Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions and isolated areas in Jaipur, Ajmer and Kota regions.


The Delhi Metro has chose to exercise extreme caution in running of trains in wake of the warning. The Indian Meteorological Department predicted heavy rains across the circles of New Delhi and Haryana along with other states.

Heavy rain is also likely in TN, Kerala, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram in the next five days.

The Haryana government has cancelled leave of all officials in civic bodies across the state, in view of the IMD alert of thunderstorm and squall.

Last week, 124 people died and more than 300 people were injured in the incidents of storms and lightning in 5 states of India, including Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh. According to the Met Department, the other places where thunderstorms ares expected are Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.
