Red Sox and Yankees to clash in London

"Really pleased that we've secured MLB games in London for 2019 & 2020 - the first city to host a Major League Baseball game in Europe", London's mayor Sadiq Khan said in a tweet. New York Yankees will face rivals Boston Red Sox on June 29 and 30 in front of an estimated crowd of 55,000.

Boston Red Sox Principal Owner John W. Henry, whose Fenway Sports Group owns Champions League finalists Liverpool, said: "For several years the Red Sox and Yankees have discussed playing in London as the first-ever Major League Baseball regular season game in Europe".

"The stadium infrastructure in this city gives Major League Baseball every opportunity to put on a first-class event", Manfred said. But two of the best hitting teams in baseball may find at least one thing to their liking: the dimensions of London Stadium.

"They are excited about the chance to meet new fans, and showcase the game they love".

The Red Sox and Yankees will take their bad blood across the pond in 2019. The Oakland A's and Seattle Mariners will also open the 2019 season at the Tokyo Dome in March.

Mr Khan has said he wants to make London the sporting capital of the world.

Major League Baseball is heading to London.

Red Sox principal owner John Henry, who also owns Liverpool FC of the Premier League, said that Boston and NY have been talking about playing overseas for some time.

"We expect an exciting and intense pair of games and appreciate the significance of representing our sport in such a meaningful way". Three more NFL games are scheduled for this year, including one at Tottenham Hotspur's new north London football stadium.

The Red Sox and Yankees rivalry is legendary, with both teams having played in the American League for more than a century.
