The five-year-old girl was attacked by a "big black bear" outside her home. When the mother went outside, she told CPW officers that a large black bear was dragging the girl.

A five-year-old girl has been hospitalised after she was attacked by a bear outside her home. The bear dropped the girl after her mother screamed at it.

The girl was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Kimberly Cyr's mother told Colorado wildlife officers that her daughter went outside to investigate what was believed to be their dog making noises.

A child was attacked by a bear in Grand Junction Sunday morning.

CPW officers are tracking the bear with the help of federal wildlife services.

Pinnt initially thought a mountain lion killed the chickens, but when officials put a camera in his yard it eventually caught a picture of a female bear roaming in the area. The press release notes that residents should expect heavier than normal law enforcement presence as well as hounds in the area until further notice.

As a reminder this time of year, CPW is telling neighbors to secure trash, keep pet food inside and immediately report any bear sightings in this neighborhood, or any residential area.
