Amazon introduces special Whole Foods discounts for Prime members

Whole Foods said that it typically has hundreds of sale items in stores that will be eligible for the additional 10% off with Prime membership.

The Whole Foods deals are available only in Florida immediately, but will start showing up nationwide this summer. The app will also give customers exclusive deals and highlight the week's best offers.

The highly anticipated loyalty program was first mentioned in August, shortly after Amazon acquired Whole Foods in a $13.7 billion blockbuster deal and promised to cut prices.

Amazon is beginning to take further advantage of its acquisition of Whole Foods by offering additional discounts on sale items to members of its Prime service.

"We're thrilled for Whole Foods Market to be part of the Prime experience", said Whole Foods co-founder and CEO John Mackey.

"There have been gradual steps towards integrating Amazon and Whole Foods".

Combined with its evolving online grocery assortment, Amazon and Whole Foods remain as large a threat as ever to the industry. The Journal points out that if you're all in on Amazon and have its credit card as well, users can get 5 percent cash back. They also can opt in to use their phone number at checkout to get the savings.

Prime was created to make your life better every single day.

Analysts at Morgan Stanley predicted that the latest perks could make Whole Foods cheaper than conventional grocers for roughly 8 million Amazon Prime subscribers, according to Reuters.

Amazon is guided by four principles: customer obsession rather than competitor focus, passion for invention, commitment to operational excellence, and long-term thinking. Plus, customers can now shop for Amazon devices, such as Echo and Fire TV, while grabbing groceries at select stores.

That extra 10 percent off was the big perk everyone was expecting, but there's a second discount that could actually mean more immediate money in your pocket: sales that rotate each week on popular products. Amazon declined to say if it plans to add the benefit to stores in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Early moves by AMZN to leverage its Whole Foods ownership were relatively low-key.
