On Saturday morning, IDF soldiers spotted four Palestinians who crossed the security fence into Israel from the southern Gaza Strip. At least 120 Palestinian protesters, including dozens of members of local terror groups, have been killed during the so-far eight weeks of protests, according to Gaza officials.

The other two terrorists stayed behind to put up a Palestinian flag and pitch a green tent upon which were written the words: "The March of Return".

The IAF attacked Hamas positions in Gaza late Saturday in response to the infiltration of four Palestinians into Israeli territory.

The Al-Quds Brigades group, which is linked to the the Islamic Jihad organisation, said it would retaliate for the killings, Haaretz reported. The army said they fled back into the enclave after soldiers opened fire.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces released a statement saying that their tank "targeted a military observation post in the southern Gaza Strip a short while ago". "The Hamas terror organization is exclusively responsible for what is happening in and out of the Gaza Strip, and it will bear the consequences for the terrorist acts being carried out from Gaza against the citizens and sovereignty of Israel", it added.

It added that the strike was also in retaliation for repeated Palestinian attempts to damage the border fence and "security infrastructure" during ongoing border protests.

Since March 30, tens of thousands of Palestinians have taken part in weekly protests which Israel says are orchestrated by Hamas and used as cover for attempted terror attacks and breaches of the border fence.

The demonstrations came to a head on May 14 when the U.S. moved its embassy to Jerusalem and at least 60 Palestinians were killed in clashes - nearly all of them Hamas members, the terror group has acknowledged.

Israeli aircraft struck two Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday night, but there were no immediate reports of casualties, Palestinian security sources in the coastal territory said.
