Deputy Patrick Rohrer died at the hospital from his injuries, authorities said.

The Olathe Police Department, Raymore Police Department in Missouri and the Jackson County Sheriff's Officer in Missouri tweeted similar heartfelt messages.

Video from a woman who was inside one of the courtrooms shows the chaos that followed the shooting, first responders arriving to help the deputies, and a woman lying on the ground. He had worked for the department for seven years. She initially was in critical condition following the shooting, but was pronounced dead during the overnight hours Friday into Saturday.

The suspect is in the operating room at the same hospital, Zeigler said.

He said no other suspects were being sought in the shooting.

The shooting is under investigation. The other deputy, who police have only identified as a woman, remains in critical condition.

The identities of the deputies and the suspect were not disclosed early Friday afternoon, the Star reported.

The shooting and subsequent events happened in the parking lot of the gated transport office.

"We're trying to stop the violence down here, we're trying to make it a better community", Ware said.

Colón says he's "very confident it was a last-resort situation to ensure the safety of the public".

The investigation is being handled by the Kansas City Police Department.

Wyandotte County sheriff's spokeswoman Maj. The suspect was also shot and was being treated at the same hospital, Bailiff said.

The authorities are not looking for any other suspects in connection to the incident.

Bailiff said it's possible the deputies were overcome with their own weapons.

Kansas City police spokesman Zac Blair said officers were speaking with witnesses about how the shooting happened.

There is surveillance video of the scene, Blair added.

Lt. Kelli Bailiff with the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office told KCTV the deputies were transporting inmates for court hearings when they were shot.
