Jackson's most recent public appearance was at the BET Awards in 2015.

Joe Jackson has died at the age of 89, according to a family source. "'I'm Joseph to you.'" Receiving the inaugural Janet Jackson award at the 2018 Radio Disney music awards on 22 June, she paid tribute to "my incredible father", who "drove me to be the best that I can". RIP JOE JACKSON and thank you for giving us the many gifts of talent from your family, not just to our community on a whole.but to the ENTIRE WORLD! "Terrified, I can't tell you I don't think to this day he realizes how scared, scared", said Jackson, who added that his father would only allow him to call him by his first name, not "daddy".

ET confirmed last week that the Jackson family patriarch's health had taken a turn for the worse and his family was gathering to say their goodbyes.

Jackson is survived by his wife, Katherine and their children Maureen, 68, Jackie, 67, Tito, 64, Jermaine, 63, La Toya, 62, Marlon, 61, Randy, 56, and Janet, 52. And his son Brandon died at birth in 1957.

Jackson worked several jobs to keep the family fed and invested his savings in the band.

Jackson and his wife had 10 children and were married for 60 years.

Tito Jackson also applauded his father as "one of the greatest men that ever lived" in a 2011 interview with The Guardian.

Joe Jackson said in his memoirs that he was "extremely strict" with his children and "pushed them to the limit" to achieve success.

In a career spanning decades, The Jackson 5 sold approximately 75 million records worldwide and were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999. But, he bounced back not long after and was seen partying in Vegas. Jackson's parents separated in 1942, leaving Joe to travel between his father in Oakland, Calif. and his mother in East Chicago, Ind., before settling in the latter.

Three daughters - LaToya, Rebbie, and, most famously, Janet - all fashioned their own pop careers under Jackson's management, with varying levels of recognition.

Morgan, who is known for making controversial statements, acknowledged Joe Jackson's contributions as well as his scandals. His children told stories about their father being hard on them growing up. "The first time I saw him, I fell in love with him - he doesn't know this...really, he was so nice. This was the main thing". Just a look would scare you. There's been times when he'd come to see me, and I would get sick. "I came out with some kids that everybody loved all over the world".

Joe agreed to it but, far from apologising, he said his methods made his kids successful and kept them out of jail.

"We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson's passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family".

Michael's dad stood by him during his molestation trial. "I can't stand them". "And they treated everybody right".
