LeBron James jumps off a CLIFF before opting out of Cavs contract

Everyone with any kind of connection to LeBron James is being asked the same question right now-where is the Cleveland Cavaliers going to end up this offseason?

The league's moratorium period prevents players and teams from signing contracts until July 6 but they're able to verbally agree on terms.

One implication of James opting out is that it likely removes Houston as a possible destination.

LeBron James will not be opting in on the final year of his deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers and will become an unrestricted free agent, according to multiple reports on Friday.

Fast forward a year, and it looks like another superstar player isn't interested in playing with James either.

There is a huge amount of excitement around the city of Los Angeles for the possibility that James could be headed to the Lakers. Also, the impeding restricted free agency for Clint Capela and Paul's apparent desire for a super max deal made things even tougher for Houston.

For the third time in four years since returning to Cleveland, LeBron James is a free agent. Which team he will sign with is also a mystery, but it's believed the Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers have the inside track to landing the 14-time All-Star.

"As it pertains to LeBron James in LA, the reports have been that he's been making some phone calls or what have you", Smith said on First Take. But imagine how much hate he'll get if he teams up with LeBron James next season. The move was expected by the three-time champion, who played in his eighth straight NBA Finals this past season. But Cleveland's roster is in need of an overhaul, and the Cavaliers are in the hard situation of having to convince James they will continue to improve without knowing if he will be back.

James won two consecutive National Basketball Association championships with the franchise from 2012 to 2013. In each those two cases, James or his representatives met with several teams.
