Ohio State's Urban Meyer Placed on Paid Administrative Leave

Ohio State University football coach Urban Meyer has been placed on administrative leave amid reports he knew of a 2015 domestic abuse incident involving a former Buckeyes staff member. Ohio State will likely make their decision on Meyer's future in the next few weeks.

The school said it is "conducting an investigation into these allegations".

When it turned into six hours of silence from Ohio State since Brett McMurphy broke the news Wednesday morning, that's when it really started to hit me that there was a legitimate chance Meyer would be fired later in the day.

Zach Smith was sacked last week after an OH court granted a domestic violence protective order to Courtney Smith.

Smith was sacked right before Big Ten Media Days and was replaced on an interim basis by former Buckeyes wideout Brian Hartline. "This allows the team to conduct training camp with minimal distraction".

"I do believe he knew and instead he chose to help the abuser and enable the abuser and believe whatever story Zach was telling everybody", she said. A native of Ashtabula, Ohio, Meyer was hired by Ohio State in late November of 2011, and immediately moved the Buckeyes into elite company: OSU went 12-0 in his debut season, in 2012, though the Buckeyes were ineligible for the postseason due to sanctions stemming from the Jim Tressel era.

Meyer termed firing Zach Smith, which happened July 23, as a "very tough call".

A change in the police report for the domestic violence incident on October 26, 2015.

The Columbus Dispatch obtained court documents on Wednesday from an affidavit Courtney Smith filed on December 18, 2015, where she said, "Zach has made threats toward me and has become physically violent". No charges were filed in that incident. I've never had a conversation about it. She claims that when she confided in Shelley Meyer, Shelley had said she would have to tell Urban what was going on.

"Nobody from the university came and asked me my side of the story", Smith said. Smith is facing a criminal trespass charge from an incident involving a child custody exchange with his ex-wife back in May. "No, and I asked some people back at the office to call and say what happened and they came back and said they know nothing about it".

And this was despite the existence of police reports documenting what receivers coach Zach Smith did to his wife, Courtney. I said that's fine, you should tell Urban. According to Courtney Smith, however, she reached out to Shelley Meyer after another incident in October 2015, when, she claims, Zach Smith shoved her up against a wall as their 3-year-old daughter clung to her leg.

On Wednesday, McMurphy published another report, suggesting that Urban Meyer knew about the domestic abuse allegations against his assistant coach in 2015. Smith's attorney allegedly had the divorce documents sealed without Courtney's consent, but they were unsealed and released Wednesday morning.
