Luka Modric could also be set to depart the Bernabeu, with reports in Italy claiming the Croatian midfielder, the victor of the Golden Ball at this summer's World Cup, could move to Inter Milan.

Modric's status has shifted and largely thanks to his exploits in Russian Federation this summer, as well as what he did in white last season, so that he is considered one of the very best in the world and as such was named the best player at the World Cup.

The player's wife first made contact with Inter Milan earlier this week to gauge their interest.

However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has other ideas with the Galacticos obsessed man going on to make a statement about the rumors linking Modric away.

Ever since his arrival in 2012 and winning the subsequent end of season award for worst transfer of the year, Luka Modric has been the picture of consistency and perfection for Real Madrid.

"The only possibility that Modric leaves is by paying $1.18 billion", Perez told reporters.

Real are unsurprisingly not considering letting him go following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo - but Modric may force their hand.

The Serie A outfit has a strong Croatian contingent at the club already, which could be a huge drawcard for Modric as he would like to play alongside his countrymen who did so well at the World Cup.

In doing so, Inter can offset the deal over two financial years. Manchester United's Matteo Darmian is the player that Inter now have in mind but they may have to act fast to secure him with Napoli also lurking.
