While Idris got to the presidential villa at 12;35pm, Daura got there at 1:15pm.

An acting Director-General has been inaugurated for Nigeria's secret police, the State Security Service (SSS) in Abuja.

The statement came shortly after Daura left the office of the Vice President.

Recall that Prof Osinbajo on Tuesday ordered the sack of the Director General, Department of State Service (DSS) Lawal Daura with immediate effect, following the unauthorized invasion of the premises of the National Assembly.

The blockade has been roundly condemned as anti-democratic and has made the leadership of the National Assembly to call off a scheduled meeting this afternoon, that would probably have paved way for the reconvening of the Assembly.

Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.

Images of the incident were shared widely on social media.

He described the "unauthorised takeover" of the National Assembly as "a gross violation of constitutional order" and "rule of law".

His resignation comes two days after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari and another senior member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu.

The statement gave no reason for Daura's dismissal.

"We urge Nigerians and the global community to condemn this illegal invasion of the National Assembly complex and the attempt to asphyxiate the legislature as undemocratic, uncivilized and irresponsible", said Saraki in a tweet. Parliament went on recess last week until September 25 but meetings were to be held on Tuesday. The DSS is a security arm that is directly under the presidency.
