We didn't sell players and with 25 players in the squad it is hard to add players.

Asked if Tottenham's players understand the lack of new arrivals, Pochettino responded: "They don't need to understand".

Spurs, who have yet to make a new signing this summer, have been interested in a move for Grealish for several months but only recently made Villa an offer.

Pochettino has labelled the club "brave" for their stance, stating his satisfaction at securing new deals for players including Harry Kane and Hueng-min Son.

"What the club is doing is showing it is so courageous", he offered. "We finish the lodge at the training ground". [So is] building a stadium that is almost £1 billion - that is true, don't believe £400 million.

Pochettino added: "I am happy to keep all the squad together, there were many rumours during the summer about players out". And then with Brexit it is worse because the cost is 30 per cent more.

Spurs have been strongly linked with a move for Grealish, whose future at Aston Villa has been a source of speculation all summer after they failed to gain promotion to the Premier League. I am so proud of them because they were very focused on trying to arrive in a very good condition.

"If all the players today are thinking in a collective target, we can be competitive".

The Scotland global was a key man during a loan spell at Villa Park last season, but as the Villans hit financial difficulty early this summer, they were unable to put anything in place that allowed them to keep the playmaker.

Deals for players like Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembélé are yet to materialise however and Pochettino said he expected the players who remained at the club following the close of the window to knuckle down.

But Pochettino believes the club have acted on his demand in a different way.
