"I know I've gotten tremendous response from having done that, because security clearances are very important to me", he said.

Signaling that his efforts to target clearances over his frustration with the Russian Federation investigation were not over, Trump tweeted that it was a "disgrace" for Bruce Ohr to be in the Justice Department.

"Bruce Ohr is a disgrace, with his wife Nelly, doing what he did", he said, hinting that he was ready to take away Ohr's security clearance too.

Ohr has come under Republican scrutiny for his contacts to Glenn Simpson, co-founder of Fusion GPS.

Ohr's wife, Nellie, worked for Fusion GPS during the campaign - something Trump has tweeted about to highlight his assertions of political bias behind the Russian Federation investigation.

In a striking rebuke, more than a dozen former top USA intelligence officials released a sharply-worded letter late Thursday describing Trump's decision earlier this week to revoke the clearance of former CIA director John Brennan as a blatant attempt to "stifle free speech" and send an "inappropriate and deeply regrettable" signal to other public servants.

Trump has repeatedly targeted Ohr as a source for Mueller and his investigation.

He noted that after the 9/11 attacks, Bush officials recalled former Clinton administration officials, including ex-CIA Director James Woolsey, to help in counter-terrorism and intelligence projects aimed at protecting the nation.

The columnist wrote that Congress should hold oversight hearings over Trump's decision to revoke Brennan's security clearance and pass legislation that would spell out the grounds for revoking a security clearance, and the procedure for challenging such a revocation.

Burr says if it is political conjecture, Trump has full authority to pull Brennan's clearance.

The DOJ official's security access is up for review along with several other Obama-era officials accused of anti-Trump bias in the workplace. Clapper and former CIA Director Michael Hayden have appeared on a White House list of people who may also have their security clearances revoked.

A retired Navy admiral who oversaw the raid that killed Osama bin Laden is telling President Donald Trump that he'd be honored if Trump would yank his security clearance just like he did to former CIA Director John Brennan.

The amendment would be unlikely to pass but is expected to draw heavy Democratic support as they call attention to the controversy surrounding Trump's revoking of Brennan's clearance, a move which was announced Wednesday. "I've never respected him; I've never had a lot of respect", Trump said.
