Michael Cohen is no Roy Cohn.

And while Mueller has yet to present or even suggest that he is planning to charge Trump himself, the Manhattan District Attorney's office is now contemplating their own charges against Trump's business organization. Pecker's company paid one of Trump's accusers - former Playboy model Karen McDougal - $150,000 in exchange for exclusive rights to her story. Days later, word surfaced that David Pecker, a longtime Trump friend and media boss, also was cooperating with prosecutors.

Baier pressed Dershowitz on why Cohen made these accusations against Trump in the first place. If the money was spent to protect Trump's campaign from embarrassment, these were de facto campaign contributions and should have been treated as such.

"Where do you stand when you've got a president who institutes a policy of this kind to deter people from coming to this country?"

Unfortunately, that has also never seemed to matter.

In another courtroom on Tuesday, Paul Manafort, the veteran political consultant who had served as Trump's campaign chairman, was convicted by a jury of five counts of tax fraud, two counts of bank fraud and one count of failure to disclose a foreign bank account.

James Gazzale, a spokesman for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, confirmed to Fox News that Cohen was subpoenaed "for relevant information in light of the public disclosures made yesterday", but declined to comment further on the investigation.

Nothing that comes of this collaboration will be helpful to Trump. The day after Election Day this year, he said, he'll decide how he can be most useful.

Or Mr Trump could fire Mr Mueller and shut down the investigation. Calls to the Trump Organization and a White House spokesperson weren't immediately returned. And even if they do not directly implicate the president, more indictments may be coming down. Behind closed doors, Trump expressed worry and frustration that a man intimately familiar with his political, personal and business dealings for more than a decade had turned on him. After all, it is Parliament that deposes and beheads the king, not the sheriff of Nottingham.

"The real concern is whether Mueller would turn any pardon into an obstruction charge", Giuliani said.

Even so, it is no big deal, and certainly not a "high crime and misdemeanor" that would lead to impeachment.

Trump is not going to resign. "If he believes Cohen that the president directed him to do it then it's not a crime at all if he doesn't believe Cohen then Cohen has committed a crime but not the president". Did he obstruct justice by firing Comey?

"What's it about, Nicolle, is we do not want to be as reckless with the facts as Donald Trump is, and we are promising the American people, put us in the majority, we will protect health care, we'll protect paychecks, and we'll address corruption", he said. Recognition of this reality is why the Democratic Party is assuring America that impeachment is not what they have in mind.

Though the letter is likely to have no bearing on how the Republican-controlled committee proceeds overseeing the Justice Department's investigations over the next few months, it does provide insight into Judiciary Committee Democrats' priorities if they are able to wrestle control of the House after the midterm elections in November.
