Taylor Swift Holds Moment of Silence for Aretha Franklin in Detroit

A free tribute concert honouring Franklin's life will be held late on Thursday, on the eve of her funeral at the Greater Grace Temple, where Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Hudson are among stars expected to perform.

We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family. "She was one of those people where no matter what you say, no matter what glowing, positive things you said about her, it would be an understatement".

Museum board member Kelly Major Green said the goal was to create a dignified and respectful environment akin to a church, the place where Franklin got her start. And this is her home. Swift then proceeded to cut the lights.

She said: "She called me one time, one time only, and she goes 'Hi, it's Aretha, ' and I'm like, 'Franklin?!"

Franklin, who died on August 16, will be laid to rest on Friday.

The Bang Bang hitmaker was chosen as one of the performers because Franklin had met her and praised her when they performed at the White House in 2014 for then-President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama.

The public is paying respects to Franklin during a two-day viewing at a Detroit museum.

The body of Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, has arrived in Detroit to begin lying in state as thousands of fans gather for a final goodbye.

"I saw the gold-plated casket - it dawned on me: She's gone, but her legacy and her music will live on forever". The service organization of predominantly black women planned a private ceremony Tuesday night in the museum in honor of Franklin.
