Just two months ago, an Ellenbrook mother and her two children were also found dead inside their suburban home.

Assistant Commissioner Metropolitan Region Paul Steel told reporters last night police arrived at the home about 12pm (local time) to find women and children among the dead.

Police attended the home after a man presented to a regional station.

"Attending police discovered the deceased bodies of several people including children believed to be up to five persons", the statement said.

A man in his 20s was helping police with their inquiries, he said, adding there was no danger to the public.

Assistant Commissioner Steel said police were trying to identify relatives to notify them.

There was no information about the ages of those who have died, beyond the fact some children were involved. It has taken everyone by surprise, we are all in complete shock.

Homicide detectives remain at the scene.

'This is a tragic event and will have an impact on family and friends, the community, and the emergency services who first responded to the tragic scene.

"While the scene is yet to be forensically examined it is believed that up to five deceased are located at that scene", Mr Steel said.

Mr Steele called the discovery "heartbreaking" and said the tragedy would send a ripple through the wider community.

The family who lived where five bodies were found in a home in Perth had not been seen for a week, neighbours claim. "It's just horrific on every level". "I'm deeply saddened by what's happened".

He did not answer the question about whether weapons were found at the scene.

"It is a tragic thing when incidents like this occur", Asst Comm.

The incident comes after a family murder-suicide in Margaret River earlier this year.

The bodies of Peter Miles, 61, his 58-year-old wife Cynda, their daughter Katrina, 35, and her four autistic children with estranged partner Aaron Cockman - Taye, 13, Rylan, 12, Arye, 10, and Kadyn Cockman, 8 - were found at the Miles residence.
